Race for US Senate in Nebraska Only has One True Leader

Jane Raybould has consistently set the bar in this contest.

Lincoln, NE - Senator Deb Fischer has consistently followed the lead of Jane Raybould in their contest for the United States Senate. Earlier this week, we learned that Senator Fischer “didn’t know there was an opening” for Nebraska to regain its voice on the critical Agriculture Committee. Jane Raybould knew. Raybould has raised this, and many other important issues since day one -unlike Senator Fischer who has woken up to Nebraskans’ concerns only in an election year.

LEADER: Jane Raybould announced her candidacy on August 25, 2017, promising to work on issues critical to Nebraskans including standing up for the vital trade agreements that farmers and ranchers depend on, agreements threatened with instability in Washington. From day one, Raybould cited the need for Nebraskans to have representation on the Senate Agriculture Committee, because for the first time in nearly 50 years Nebraska was absent a voice on this all-important committee.

FOLLOWER: 156 days later, on January 9, 2018, Senator Fischer announced she would join the agriculture committee, in the sixth year of her six-year term.

LEADER: Jane Raybould believes women and stands up for sexual assault victims. On November 14, 2017 in an email to supporters, Raybould denounced sexual predator Roy Moore’s candidacy for Senate and called Fischer “an embarrassment to our state” after Fischer went on record of saying only “IF” the victims’ accounts were true should Moore step down.

FOLLOWER: Only after feeling the pressure from Raybould’s pointed words did Fischer react and change her tune on November 15, 2017 saying Roy Moore should indeed step down.

LEADER: Jane Raybould announced her candidacy on August 25, 2017, citing the need for Nebraskans to have access to and an audience with their elected officials. At that time, Senator Fischer’s listening sessions had ignored the overwhelming majority of the state’s population.

FOLLOWER: On August 28, 2017 Deb Fischer announced she would finally listen to her constituents and host a town hall meeting in Lincoln.

These election-year stunts are too little too late. Deb Fischer knows Nebraskans are dissatisfied with her job performance and she’s worried come November 6, 2018 Nebraskans will send a leader, not a follower, to Washington by electing Jane Raybould as Nebraska’s next United States Senator.
